After eight years for Benjamin and four years for me, we are back in Curitiba! Our flights went relatively smoothly. However, it wasn’t as easy as a four-hour drive to Chicago. (People to whom I am referring, you know who you are.) I will let the photos speak for themselves.
I may have exaggerated how I felt. 🙂
No matter how I felt, though, I know that I have been blessed thus far in my trip. I have my baggage, relatives to spend time with, and several months to learn about teaching English while I appreciate Brazilian culture. Everything was wonderful.
Actually, there was one hiccup in our trip.
When we checked our bags in STL, American Airlines said our bags would be waiting for us in Curitiba, even though normally you are supposed to pick up your back and check it in again when arriving internationally in Brazil. Well, we walked right past the baggage claim and headed for the check-in counter to get our tickets to Curitiba. That’s when we met Adriando, a GOL representative, who said we had made a mistake. Yep. Our original plan was correct and American Airlines gave us bad information.
Adriano said people would bring us our bags. 30 minutes later, we were still waiting for our bags. Our flight had just started boarding. Oh man.
Next thing we know, we’re waiting in the “Lost Baggage” office. We finally got our bags.
The rest is a little too embarrassing to mention. Suffice it to say that, after being laughed at by onlookers as we ran, hurrying through customs, and sweating in a bus on the tarmac, we arrived at our plane.
9:58. We stepped onto the plan 12 minutes before we took off for Curitiba. We cut it close.
But the past in the past.
Tomorrow, we have some shopping planned, but mostly we are just hoping to get acclimated to being in Brazil. Your prayers are appreciated.
And now, time for bed. Tomorrow awaits! Happy New Year!
